Trump’s lawyers delay his tax return sending

August 9, 2021

The “EcotvPanama” website exposed the legal move made by the lawyers of the former American president, Donald Trump, to avoid sending the tax returns of the former head of state.

1. Congress request

The appeal filed on Wednesday, August 04, comes as a result of the U.S. Department of Justice’s request for Trump to provide relevant tax information to a House committee.

This commission in charge of overseeing the tax issues that afflict the American republic has been demanding the tax returns for the last 6 years before Trump arrives at the White House so the IRS can keep track of the president’s finances.

2. Political Arguments

The tycoon’s lawyers allege that the Democratic faction of Congress is engaging in political persecution, performing lawsuits only for President Trump, solely by being a Republican and political opponent.

Democrats in the United States, who control Congress, have been trying for years to gain access to the tax secrets of Trump, the first president since the 1970s to refuse to release his tax returns despite making his fortune a campaign talking point.

3. Tax Background

Just before the November 2020 presidential election, The New York Times published an investigation based on 20 years of tax data concerning the former real estate tycoon and his group.

According to the newspaper, Trump had paid only $750 in federal taxes in 2016, evading taxes in ten of the previous fifteen years, reporting more losses than profits. However, Trump only replied it was “false information” and claimed to have “paid a lot of taxes” without giving more details.
